Unofficial Recap: Bighorns vs. Bozeman Icedogs 5:4 10/20/23

Though the Icedogs gave us a good fight, we triumphed winning 5 to 4. the Icedogs put up a big effort making 31 shots on our goal, but as usual, the Bighorns dominated with 55 shots on the Bozeman goal. That is one thing the Bighorns do well at every game: making a ridiculous number of shots on the opposing goal.

Period 1

The Bighorns and Icedogs played a fast-paced and exciting Period 1. The Icedogs struck first, with Czarnecki scoring just over a minute into the game. However, the Bighorns responded quickly, with Braden Cunningham scoring on an assist from his brother Camden and cousin Dylan. Tim Mattingly then added a goal of his own, assisted by Trey Pareja and Mason Eggen. The Bighorns were back on the power play after Mason Czarnecki was penalized for head contact, and capitalized on the penalty by adding another goal, this time from Camden Cunningham, assisted by Gavin Barr and Braden Cunningham. The Bighorns led 3-2 at the end of the first period and dominated shots on goal with 21 shots on goal to Bozeman's 7.

  • Camden Cunningham: 1 goal, 1 assist

Period 2

Second period of the Bighorns vs. Bozeman Icedogs was a more chippy affair than the first period, with several penalties called on both sides. The Icedogs took advantage of the power play, scoring two goals in the second period, one by Kody Wallenberg and the other by Westin Weisenburger. The Bighorns also scored a goal in the second period, with Camden Cunningham scoring his second goal of the game, assisted by Gavin Barr and Braden Cunningham. The game was tied 4-4 at the end of the second period.

  • Braden Cunningham: 1 assist

  • Gavin Barr: 1 assist

Period 3

In a close and exciting game, the Bighorns defeated the Icedogs 5-4. The Icedogs took the early lead, but the Bighorns answered back and kept their defense strong all of third period. A few penalties is all that went down during the last period and in a butt-clenching hail mary, Trey Pareja of the Bighorns scored the game-winning goal with just 5 seconds left in the game.
